On March 15, 1917, the profession of occupational therapy was founded. Occupational therapy has become an integral part of our evolving healthcare needs. Cheers to all Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapist Assistants who have committed your lives to making a difference in the lives of others. You are part of the centennial! We celebrate YOU today, tomorrow, and every day!
There are many ways to honor and
celebrate occupational therapy’s centennial, and perhaps you celebrated the
2017 milestone with OTs around the world! We want to improve how we celebrate
OT month here at EBS, and we would LOVE your ideas! We may even share your idea
on this site and our social media pages! How do you celebrate being an OT? Send
an email to email@example.com.
EBS Stories: “Why I became an Occupational Therapist”
In honor of OT Month, some of our amazing OTs shared their stories of why they became Occupational Therapists. Check them out below:
Patty Miller, OTR/L
EBS Early Intervention
“What’s an OT? Is that someone who helps you figure out ways to do things that you couldn’t otherwise have done? What a great thing to do! I want to learn more about that! And I eventually became an OT.”
“Thinking back to helping my mom, I decided that Occupational Therapy was the route that I wanted to take. I had the opportunity to work in a private clinic with kids, and I decided then that working with kids was the career path I wanted to take.”
Kim Duetsch, M.S.,
EBS Children’s Therapy
“When I was in High School I had a scheduling mistake, and their way of fixing that mistake was to add me as a volunteer in the Life Skills class for a semester. I was able to see the Occupational Therapist work with these students. I was going to be a dentist and decided to apply to OT school. And here I am today!”
Regional Director, EBS Healthcare
“I didn’t choose OT. OT really chose me! I taught myself sign language and volunteered at a pediatric rehab clinic with the Early Intervention age-group who were hard of hearing. I continued to work with a school-age group next. I decided I wanted to be a part of it all!”
